This week’s Famitsu
That’s the code name for Compile Heart’s new project, which just got a teaser countdown site that will reach 0 on Friday. Famitsu reveals the game’s full name to be “Choujigen Game Neptune.”
Choujigen Game Neptune is a PS3 RPG that’s set in the virtual world of “Game Gyoukai.” That’s Japanese for “Game Industry.” Main character Neptune must stop the evil plot of Goddess Magicon.
Oh, I forgot to mention that the characters in Neptune, including Neptune himself, are game consoles. Also, Sega is partnering with Compile Heart for the sales side of the game.
So, we have Sega selling a game about a console named Neptune fighting the Goddess Magicon. Not only that, but the game will have appearances by Sega characters. The game will also have its own version of well-known game industry entities like Capcom, Gust and Nippon Ichi — all presumably unofficial, of course.
And here’s the best part. Apparently, the consoles can transform into bishojo. What this will be used for is unclear at present.
Sunsoft is reviving its 1985 arcade and Famicom game Ikki as a download-only PS3 release.
The game will offer twelve player online play which pits peasants against feudal overlords. Stages are set in such varied areas as a farm village and a castle town. You’ll be able to select between “gorgeous” and “classic” visual styles.
In its last issue, Famitsu promised a “super mega ultra scoop that would surprise anyone.” This appears to be it. From Software and Namco Bandai are teaming up for a third entry in the fan-favorite Another Century Episode mech series. Titled “Another Century Episode R,” the game will see PlayStation 3 release in 2010 (possibly in the summer).
Series confirmed for inclusion include Genesis of Aquarion, Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion R2, Macross F, Macross Zero, Super Dimension Century Orguss, Full Metal Panic, Overman King Gainer, Gundam Seed Destiny, Z Gundam, and Crossbone Gundam.
Development is currently 70% complete.
Monster Hunter Meets Metal Gear
This might have been the big Famitsu surprise, except that I have a feeling it will be revealed at tonight’s Metal Gear press conference. For the record, it is the subject of the magazine’s cover.
Monster Hunter and Metal Gear Solid Peace Walker will feature in a big collaboration between Capcom and Konami. Monster Hunter mascot character Felyne (known as Airu in the Japanese series) will appear in Peace Walker to support Snake. Snake will also get to fight some major Monster Hunter beasts, with players teaming up via CO-OPS (cooperative play) for stronger beasts. Additionally, Peace Walker will inherit some staple elements from Monster Hunter, including the “well prepared meat,” which will appear in Metal Gear as “well prepared rations.”
In this week’s issue, Hideo Kojima appears in an interview where he reveals that the collaboration was decided upon back at 2008’s Tokyo Game Show. The Monster Hunter staff didn’t know anything about the project. In fact, the Peace Walker monster recreations were all done by the Kojima Productions staff observing the Monster Hunter creatures with their eye. Kojima believes the Monster Hunter staff will be surprised with how closely the monster models have been recreated.
Check back throughout the day for updates.
